    Introduction to rubbing fastness tester

AATCC rubbing fastness tester is the testing instrument of the American society of textile chemists and dyeing workers. The rubbing fastness tester tests the ability of a fabric to transfer color from its surface to other materials under dry and wet rubbing conditions. In addition to color transfer testing, the instrument can be used for abrasion, dry/wet friction, flexural, powdering, dry cleaning, grinding and other tests. The sample is controlled and repeatable by standard pressure and motion mode.

There are three types of rotating rubbing color fastness apparatus: traditional manual rubbing color fastness apparatus CSI238AA, electric rubbing color fastness apparatus CSI238BB, manual rotating rubbing color fastness apparatus CSI238EE. The rubbing fastness tester meets the following test criteria, as well as other industrial and organizational testing methods.

    CSI238AA and CSI238BB: CSI238EE:

    AATCC 8 AATCC 116

    AATCC 165 ISO 105 - X16

    ASTM F1329

    EN ISO 105 - X12

    ISO 105 - D02

    JIS K6328

    JIS L0849

    JIS L1084

AATCC rubbing fastness tester instructions include operating procedures and safety measures. Please read this instruction carefully before installing and using the instrument to ensure safety and accuracy of test results. We highly recommend that users read this manual and are not responsible for the consequences of not strictly following the instructions to operate the AATCC rubbing color fastness tester.

    Adjust stroke length

The friction path or stroke length of the friction head moving back and forth may be adjusted to 50, 76 or 104mm (2, 3 or 4 inches) to suit the size of the specimen. The adjustment of stroke length is shown in figure 2 and is carried out according to the following steps.

Unplug the instrument from the power supply.

Loosen thumb screw of shield on reciprocating arm and lift shield. This process does not require the removal of screws.

Use a flat - port screwdriver to connect the drive arm with the crank screw. Note the positioning of the gasket, gasket to maintain a certain distance between the drive arm and the crank. Move the drive arm to the appropriate position, then lock the screw.

Reinstall the shield and tighten the thumb screw.

    CSI238E operation method

CSI238E is a manual operating instrument with a reciprocating rotating test head, which is mainly used to test printing parts of small areas on fabrics. Using standard weights, the friction head with a diameter of 16mmm contacts the surface of the sample and applies 11.1n pressure. When the operator turns the handle in the same direction, the friction head first rotates 1.125 turns clockwise, and then counterclockwise. The specimen is held in place during the test by applying pressure and installing sandpaper on the instrument base. The upper end of the instrument can be tilted upward along the base to facilitate the installation and removal of specimens.

    Choice of CSI238AA and CSI238BB

We provide a complete set of interchangeable friction heads and friction arms to meet the testing methods of various industries and organizations. The most common friction heads and arms are listed below. If you need the following accessories or other accessories and spare parts of AATCC friction fastness tester, please contact our customer service department.

    Replace friction head

Remove the screw next to the friction arm on the friction head.

Pull the friction head down from the positioning hole under the friction arm.

Insert the replacement friction head into the positioning hole and tighten it with screws. If the edge of the friction head is flat, its flat side should be towards the screw.

    Acrylic friction head

Standard friction heads for CSI238AA and CSI238BB are acrylic rods with a diameter of 16mm (0.63 in.). Larger acrylic friction heads are available for testing surfaces up to 25mm (1 in.) in diameter.

    Wet sample friction head

Hollow nylon friction head can be selected for wet and solvent friction test. Nylon friction head has the same size as standard friction head, but it has better chemical corrosion resistance. It has a loading hole on the side to evenly transfer a fixed amount of liquid to the test cloth through 4 branch holes. When it is filled with solvent such as MEK, can be used to evaluate uv curing ink curing degree and friction. The friction head is fastened with a screw on the side of the friction arm.

To ensure that the friction head is properly fixed on the friction arm, the standard calibration cloth of the friction fastness meter is used to test and check that the resulting image is flat.

    Friction block

The friction block provides a rectangular friction area of 19 x 25.4mm(0.75 x 1 in.) for testing of floor coverings. It is connected to the drive arm by rubbing a screw on the side of the arm. Screws are available with Allen cylindrical Allen socket head screws, 10-32×20mm, which can be manually fixed and loosened. After the friction block is mounted on the drive arm, the rectangular sleeve provided with the friction block can be used to install the test cloth.

    Yarn test head

Acrylic friction heads are used for testing yarn and linear materials. It has a diameter of 25mm (2 inches) and a length of 51mm (2 inches). When the standard friction head is in place, a large circular test area is provided to prevent material slippage. The standard test cloth is held in place by two spring clips fitted to the friction head.

    Lightweight friction arm

The pressure of the standard friction arm of CSI238AA and CSI238BB on the sample is 9N. For tests requiring less pressure, we offer lightweight friction arms of medium weight (3N). This type of friction arm is gripless, and the CSI238AA USES hooks suitable for locating holes to reduce weight.

When replacing the friction arm, remove the screw used to tighten the drive arm and crank (note the orientation of the washer) and remove the friction arm assembly from the instrument. Insert the new friction arm assembly into the guide rail. Insert the washer and screw at the specified stroke length position to connect the drive arm and crank, and finally tighten the screw
