3. Test standard description

The bed blanket combustion tester tested the sample according to ASTM D4151.

The preparation and testing of samples are complicated. Samples can be prepared and tested according to instructions.

The main operating instructions for the bed mat combustion tester are presented below, along with some useful tips.

The instrument is completed in strict accordance with the standard drawing, and fully meets and can achieve the test content required by the standard. Ignition time can be set arbitrarily and recorded to 0.01s accurately.

The instrument includes: (1) flow meter: adjust the size of gas flow. (2) fire nozzle: the gas is connected to the flow meter through the hose, and then through the hose at the back of the box into the fire nozzle. (3) windscreen: the upper part of the windscreen is installed with glass. The test was carried out in the ventilation kitchen, and the circular hole on the top of the box and the gap on the windscreen made the air convection. (4) control panel: power-power switch; Start: Start the internal motor, move the fire tube to the test position (the vertical distance from the sample center is 8mm, and the horizontal distance is 3.2mm) and touch the internal timing switch; Reset: Reset timer/fire tube. (5) sample fixture and sample holder. The sample base plate is provided with knobs that can adjust the left and right movement. The knobs can be loosened and tightened to move and fix the sample base plate. (6) timer: display the setting and actual ignition time. Only after clearing the time can the fire tube complete the required movement, otherwise the fire tube cannot return to the initial position after moving forward.

Analysis of test steps:

After sample preparation and instrument debugging, place the assembled sample fixture on the sample holder. Open the gas valve and air the fire tube. Fire the flame with an electronic lighter. Press the start key on the control panel, and under the action of mechanical transmission, the fire tube moves forward to the test position to ignite the sample on the sample fixture and the test paper. Ignition starts the timing system at the same time, and the control panel displays the frequency to record the ignition time. After 1s, the fire tube moves backward, the timer stops, and the test ends. Finally, take off the sample and test paper for grading.

A equipment debugging:

(1) adjust the position of the fire nozzle

The vertical distance between the nozzle and the test sample is 8mm with a height gauge.

Move the sample rack so that the test sample is 3.2mm away from the nozzle.

(2) adjust ignition time

Set the ignition time on the timer panel. Press the start button, and the fire tube moves to the test position driven by the motor. After staying for a certain period of time (which is the ignition time), the fire tube moves back. The duration is displayed on the timer. If the duration is consistent with the set ignition time, the instrument can be used normally.

(3) adjust the flame length

Check that the installation of the instrument has been completed according to the operation manual. Turn on the supply gas (methane, technical grade, >97.0% purity) and drain it in a ventilated environment for a certain time; Make sure the instrument is powered on, turn off the ventilator, and adjust the flame length to 16mm(5/8 ") after ignition. The flame length is measured by the flame length gauge in the attachment.

Tip: before adjusting the flame height, it is necessary to empty the air in the pipe. The standard time is at least 5min. In order to ensure your safety, this step must be done in the ventilation kitchen or other well-ventilated environment. When adjusting the flame length, the ventilation equipment will be turned off to avoid the influence of wind speed.

Tip: pay attention to the use of height and flame length gauges. When the height gauge is clamped into the sample fixture and the fire nozzle is moved to touch the gauge center, the standard requirements are met. To adjust the flame length, aim the flame length gauge at the side of the flame. The width of the flame length gauge is the required flame length.

B sample preparation:

(1) cut 10 test samples and standard combustion test paper

Tip: at the end of the test, the surface combustion state of the standard combustion test paper will be evaluated to determine the combustion performance of the sample.

The size of 10 samples is 70mm×70mm. 5 samples are marked on the front and 5 on the back. The size of 10 standard combustion test paper is 70mm×90mm, and a circle with a diameter of 50mm is hollowed out in the middle.

Tip: five combustion tests are carried out on both sides of the sample. Nnn-p-40b standard burning test paper, no. 2 lens paper.

(2) brush treatment

Each surface fluff sample should be first treated with a brush tool. Non-fluff samples do not need this procedure. Standard provides a brush unit that conforms to this test.

Tip: brush unit can be used in 45° combustion tester. The vertical pressure was 75±10g.

(3) install the sample in the sample holder

Install the sample in the sample fixture in the following order: lower splint → sample → standard combustion test paper → upper splint. Ensure that the sample is flat and the sample and the combustion test paper are in the center of the fixture. For thin specimens, clamps in fittings shall be applied.

Tip: since the attachment contains 5 sample clamps, 5 samples (together with standard combustion test paper) can be loaded into the corresponding clamps at one time. All the 5 samples face up or face down.

(4) sample moistening

Put the samples into the oven and dry them for 30min. Oven temperature was 105±3℃. The samples were then dried on the desiccant for 30-60min.

Tip: do not touch the brushed sample surface when taking the sample. Do not put more than 5 dried samples on the desiccant at one time.

C start the experiment.

Place the assembled and dried sample (sample holder) on the sample rack.

Tip: if the sample has been pretreated, the test operation should be started at this time. The standard requirement is that the test should start within 30s after the sample is taken out of the dryer.

(2) turn on the main power of the instrument to the open state. Set the ignition time to 1s on the timer to start the test

Open the instrument and press the button to start the instrument working. The burner will ignite and the flame will strike. At the same time, the timer will automatically start timing. Continuously test 5 samples (front or back), and conduct follow-up test after the drying of the other 5 samples.

Tip: make sure the sample is properly mounted on the test rack and that the correct automatic flame impact time is set at 1s before the test.

D classification of fabrics
